The following is an extract from a recent article authored by JRBH in The Times, commenting on the Walker Review of corporate governance:
"When David Walker’s review of corporate governance is published this week, the focus doubtless will be on pay. It’s easy to see why: big bonuses are highly emotive. The nation loves a good witch-hunt. But before we grab our torches and head off to the woods, it is worth noting that when it comes to corporate governance there are other disruptive elements in play.
The real villain of the piece is risk. This matter may be more complex than the question of pay and isn’t such an obvious headline-grabber, but examine why executives were able to take such risks and you will find cultural and structural problems that go to the root of the corporate governance system."
